Casita vs Scamp: Which is the Better in 2022

Casita and Scamp are two popular travel trailers manufactured by Forest River Inc. Casitas were first designed in 1997 and produced until 2006, while the Scamps were introduced in 2009 and will be sold through 2022.

Casitas have a reputation for being more durable than Scamps because Casitas sport heavier materials, such as particleboard instead of plywood, and steel frames rather than aluminum. Capitan also offers more up-to-date appliances and storage space than their counterparts.

Scamps tend to be less expensive when compared to Casitas with similar options. In addition, they can be towed much easier due to their lighter weight. Scamp’s also tended to be much easier when it comes down to maintenance and making repairs. Casita has a higher-end interior.

However, the homes in Casitas are mostly constructed in Chino, California, and then shipped in modules. Casitas travel trailers can be turned into permanent year-round structures depending on the owner’s preference, whereas Scamps tend not to be as customizable or adaptable. Casita’s may also require annual re-certification that adds maintenance over time versus a traditional trailer.

Casita offers three different lines: Casita Freedom Express, Casita Traveler VII, and Casita Sunset Trail II. The Casita Freedom Express is built for ease of use, with many features designed specifically for younger campers, such as picnic tables that fold away easily and storage bins that swing up, so they don’t get in your way.

Casitas also include several furniture and fixtures that fold down at the touch of a button. Casita Traveler VII is ideal for families with older children and offers lots of storage space, including two-burner stovetops and full kitchens. Casita’s Sunset Trail II has fewer features than Casita Freedom Express or Casitas Travelers VII but allows owners to customize their trailers based on lifestyle needs.

Scamp offers four different lines: Scamp 16FBS, Scamp 19FBHSE, Scamp 19RBHWSE and the Scamp 25FBHSE. The 19RBHWSE is made for those looking to outfit the trailer themselves; it comes along with all of the pieces you’ll need except for things unique to each owner, such as paint colors.

The 16FBS was built for convenience; it includes a microwave oven and an outside shower with hot and cold water options. The 19FBHSE includes a hidden outdoor LP gas grill, an ice maker, and several cabinets. Finally, the 25FBHSE is perfect for families who want more space inside their home; it has nearly twice as much storage space as Casita’s Freedom Express.

Both Casitas and Scamps have one thing in common: Forest River offers many different floor plans so customers can drive up and buy what they want without making any modifications or spending extra money on additional materials.

Casitas prices range $25,000 to $55,000. Scamp prices range $21,500 to around $60,000. Casitas are typically available in California, while Scamps can be found nationwide. Casita also offers several upgrades for customers wanting even more out of their travel trailers.

Casita’s Freedom Express upgrade package includes a microwave oven and an outside shower with hot and cold water options; Casita’s Traveler VII has two-burner stovetops and full kitchens; Casita’s Sunset Trail II allows owners to customize it based on their needs; finally, the Casita Freedom Express Ultra Flip Down Package comes with all of the features included in other Casita packages but adds special overhead cabinets that flip down from the ceiling when needed.

In summary, both Casitas and Scamps are great trailers for those wanting a home on the go. Casitas tend to be more expensive as they offer more amenities and storage space; Casita’s also has a higher-end interior design. Casita is only available in California, while Scamps can be purchased nationwide.

Casita offers several upgrades that can be added to any Casita model if desired. In conclusion, Casitas provide a safer and more upgraded experience at a higher cost than their counterparts.
