How to Register a Bus as an RV?
If you want to take an old bus and turn it into an RV, then you can have some fun with that. You can make it all yours and have all the features that you want to see in it. There are some rules for how the conversion can be done, though, and you need to learn how to register the bus as an RV after it is done, as well.
Keep All Of The Paperwork
You are going to need the bill of sale and title for the bus when you go to register it as an RV. Make sure that you have both of those things on hand before you even begin the process of converting the bus. If you can’t find the title, then get a salvage title. You need to have all of this information ready to send to the department of motor vehicles once you get the RV done.
Make The Necessary Conversions
There is a lot of work to be done when changing a bus into an RV, and you need to do it right. Some of the work that you need to do includes creating a bathroom and making an area for the kitchen. You need to get a stove going in there, and that means using electricity or propane in the RV. You also will want a refrigerator and running water. You need to create a large enough space for your bed, as well, and make sure that everything meets the requirements for an RV.

Take Pictures Of The Finished RV
Once you are finished with the project and are happy with every part of it, you can start taking pictures of it. Try to capture all the details of how the electricity is hooked up and all of the other important features. Show how safe it is and how well it works in the photos so that the DMV will say that it passes inspection. You need to send all of these pictures along with the paperwork as proof of what you have done to convert the bus.
Check The Weight And Get Insurance
Another thing you need to do before the RV is complete is to check the weight and make sure that it is just right. You can do this at a weigh station somewhere near you so that you have the exact weight to send to the DMV. Another thing that you need to do is to get insurance on the vehicle. Find a company that makes it easy to get the exact insurance that you need for your recently converted bus-to-RV.
Be Prepared To Show The RV To The DMV
It is sometimes not enough to simply send in the paperwork and photos, and you may be required to take your RV to the DMV to get inspected. This can only be done in certain locations so you might have to travel a bit to get there. You may also need to get a new driver’s license to be qualified to drive your new RV. It is a bit of a process, but as long as you do the conversion well, then it should pass the inspection and be good to go.
