How long to keep fresh water in the RV tank?

When people engage in activities such as camping, they have to ensure that their RV tanks are filled with fresh water. The water should be used sparingly so that it may last throughout the camping period. The following guide will enlighten you about how long to keep fresh water in the RV tank.

A freshwater tank may last for a period of 2-3 days. The RV tank can hold at least 30 gallons of water, and that means that when a couple goes camping and they are using 6 gallons a day per person, the water in the tank will last for at least 3 days. The freshwater tank should be well maintained since the stored water is usually used when showering, washing the dishes, and other chores.

Some of the factors that should be considered include the size of the tank and the number of occupants. Most of the tanks can store at least 30 gallons of water. There are larger tanks that can accommodate at least 52 gallons of water. Other factors to consider include water usage.

The best ways to conserve the water in the RV tank include;

  • Using the water sparingly when showering.
  • Using the water sparingly when washing your hands.
  • Using water bandits to fill the RV tank during the camping period.

The RV tank should always be empty and it should be refilled during the next trip. It is also good to sanitize the tank before storing the water that will be used during the camping period. Although the RV tank will not be fully sanitized, the tank will be clean and the water will also be fresh throughout the camping period. When filling the RV tank with water, always use a filter and a safe hose to ensure that the stored water will be clean.

Some of the RV tanks also have a low point drain that is present under the water tank. The valve should be opened and the RV tank will dispense the stored water. In some instances, there may be some residual water. The residual water should first be drained before adding any other water.

To ensure that the water stored in the RV tank will stay fresh, it should first be sanitized if at all you may be questioning the quality of the water lines and the tank. The water should also be from a quality water source since it is not supposed to contain any contaminants.

To sanitize the water in the RV tank, first, drain the present water, add some bleach that will be used to ensure that the water is pure. For 15 gallons, you should use ¼ cup bleach. The faucets should also be turned on. After adding the water, it should first settle for about 12 hours. After the bleach ceases to produce a certain scent, the faucets should be turned off.
