Winter RV Camping. The Ultimate How-To Guide

Winter RV Camping: The Ultimate How-To Guide

When you are going to be taking your RV out for a winter camping experience, you need to be much more prepared than you are in the summer. You need to check the RV to make sure that it is ready for the cold camping trip, and you might need to make a few upgrades and purchases to get it ready.

Camping in the winter can be fun, but you just need to be prepared for it so that it will go as smoothly and be as stress-free as possible. Here are some tips for your Winter RV camping: the ultimate how-to guide:

Use A Space Heater

One of the top priorities when camping in the RV in the winter months is staying warm, and one of the best things that you can use to stay warm is a space heater. You can find the right size heater for your RV and get it hooked up.

It will be nice to have it with on your winter camping trip because of how it will thaw you out after being in the cold all day and keep the whole RV warm, and you need to find the best-rated space heater so it will be safe to use and will heat the RV without taking too much energy.

Check On The Engine

Before you head out on a camping trip at any time of the year you need to know that the RV is running well, but that is especially important during the winter months because so much more can go wrong during the winter.

You need to check the engine, batteries, and all of that to make sure that isn’t any corrosion or anything bad going on with them. The cold weather can do some damage to the weather, but as long as you check it and do good care for the engine when needed, you will be fine.

Get Better Insulation In The RV

You can use a space heater to warm it up inside, but it won’t do that good of a job if it is not properly insulated. You might not have been too concerned about the insulation in the RV when you took it out during the warmer months, but in the winter, you need to be sure that it has the right insulation inside.

Check out the windows, too, to make sure there aren’t any cracks around them or anything like that, and get it all sealed up as well as possible to keep out the cold.

Take Care Of The Plumbing

When you are camping in the winter, the plumbing can freeze up and that can cause some big issues in the RV. You need to consider the various ways to warm the plumbing and keep it from freezing, such as using heat tape for the hoses and pipes or a bit of antifreeze.

You can also keep the faucet running at all times, turned on to just allow a dribble of water so that it will keep the pipes from freezing up.

Use An RV Skirt

Another way to keep the RV warm in the winter is to use an RV skirt. This will help protect the pipes and more, and it can be added around the bottom of the vehicle.

You need to get the right RV skirt so that it is easy to travel with and easy to put on, and you will be glad to have it because of how well it will protect the vehicle.

It will keep it warm and keep the snow out, and it is an important thing to bring with on all of your winter camping trips.

Pack All Of The Warm Things You Need

Just because you will be staying in an RV rather than outdoors in a tent doesn’t mean that you can neglect packing warm clothing and blankets. You need to be prepared for the cold weather of winter camping, and you need to pack a few more blankets, including extra-warm sleeping bags, so that you won’t get too cold at night.

You also need to pack plenty of warm winter clothing and all of the other necessities that you need to have a good time while camping. Bring foods that can be heated, such as soup and hot chocolate, and you will be comfortable while camping in the winter.
