Towing capacity explained
Are you planning to buy a trailer and wondering if your car will be able to tow it? Nice concern over there. But what could be this towing capacity? By definition, it is just the maximum amount of weight which a vehicle can tow as it is pulling a trailer.
This means that when you are buying a trailer, you should be aware of your car will be able to tow having been loaded with all your belonging on transit.
This means that if you buy a more substantial capacity of a trailer whose weight cannot be managed by your vehicle, you might have to look for a better car.
There are different vehicles with different towing capacity meaning your trailer size, and weight are not limited. For instance, any brand 4Runner can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
This is to say that if you have a 4Runner, it would be advisable that you buy a trailer of less than 5000pounds since you also need space for your luggage. Otherwise, it will never move, leave alone, giving you the right speed.
Maybe you are wondering how you can calculate a towing capacity. The simple way would be to consult your manufacturer. It is usually included in the vehicle manual, and so you can refer.
Once you have known the indication on the manual, ensure that you do not have to weigh exceeding the towing capacity. It could still be counted based on combined vehicle weight minus curb weight. Remember the passengers are also part of the load.
Towing capacity= gross combined vehicle weight- curb weight
With a capacity of 5000lbs capacity, you can pull any trailer weighing equal to or less than 5000lbs which is including your passengers’ weight. To be saved, let it be below 5000lbs to avoid any risks. Remember your safety should be the priority at all times.
